Caters to the surging demand for data and much-needed high-speed
connectivity
JAKARTA, 12 November 2024: PT Centratama Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Tbk (“Centratama”) a subsidiary of the EdgePoint Group (“EdgePoint”), a leading ASEAN based independent telecommunications infrastructure company, announced today that it has successfully completed the laying of over 2,500 kilometers of fiber optic (FO) cables in 13 locations across Indonesia’s three (3) largest and most populated islands, Java, Sumatra, and Northern and Southern Sulawesi.
Centratama provided end-to-end support for the Mobile Network Operator’s fiberization efforts, from build to commercialization, to meet the country’s ever-growing demand for quality data connectivity and higher network capacity.
The 2,500 kilometers of fibre has established connections for over 1,000 connected sites, of which 178 are In-Building-Coverage (IBC) sites, providing the much needed increased backhaul capacity within the regions. The improvement of the Fiber-to-the-Tower Infrastructure (FTTT) enhances network performance and supports 4G and 5G expansion, enabling mobile network operators (MNOs) to scale efficiently, at lower cost, while delivering faster, more reliable services to their users.
Raymond Yan, Chief Executive Officer of Centratama Group said “We hit our 2,500km of FO by end of 2024 milestone with the completion of this project. FO is an ideal infrastructure investment as it allows for higher data transmission capacity, lower latency, and more stable connectivity compared to traditional microwave antenna transmission. It also supports the growth of data-intensive applications, high-speed internet access and emerging technologies like 5G and edge computing. The infrastructure upgrade is also necessary to cater to the growing consumer and business demand for data for streaming, IoT to smart manufacturing. To fully harness the opportunities, present in this mobile first digital economy and achieve its digital transformation goals, Indonesia must continue to prioritize investing into the country’s robust digital infrastructure.”
Centratama Group, – the third largest independent towerco in Indonesia is always looking for new strategic partnerships with MNOs and non-MNOs to expand and upgrade the telecommunications infrastructure and fulfill its role within the telecommunications ecosystem.
